About Dr Rajendra Rajoo
Dr Rajendra Devan Rajoo—known to colleagues and patients as Roy—is the retired founding surgeon of Umhlanga Orthopaedic Surgeons. His career combined South African and international orthopaedic training with a particular interest in hand and arthroplasty surgery.
He trained in Durban, obtained his Fellowship in Orthopaedic Surgery through the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa and completed a Hand Fellowship under Professor Ulrich Mennen.
After moving to Canada in 1999, he practised in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, where he served as Head of Surgery and completed the Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada examinations. He also visited arthroplasty surgeons in India to broaden his exposure to different surgical approaches.

Dr Rajoo founded Umhlanga Orthopaedic Surgeons after returning to Durban in 2005 and helped establish its consulting presence across Mount Edgecombe, Umhlanga and Gateway. His broad surgical experience and mentorship—particularly in complex hand and upper-limb surgery—remain an important part of the practice’s history.
