Medical-aid guidance
Confirm your benefits before treatment.
Medical-aid rules differ between schemes and benefit options. Some require a GP referral before a specialist consultation or prior authorisation for investigations, injections, surgery or hospital admission.
Orthopaedic exclusions and restrictionsCertain medical-aid options exclude or restrict cover for particular orthopaedic conditions, investigations, procedures or joint replacements. Membership of a medical aid does not automatically guarantee cover. Please confirm your benefits, networks, exclusions, co-payments and authorisation requirements directly with your scheme.
Hip and knee replacement pathways
Our practice participates in all three programmes.
For qualifying members, primary hip or knee replacement may be covered in full or through a defined bundled benefit when the applicable programme, hospital network, clinical criteria and prior-authorisation requirements are met.
01Discovery Health joint arthroplasty / Major Joints Network02JointCare03Major Joints for Life Programme eligibility is not automatic. Cover depends on your medical scheme, plan option, procedure, selected hospital, network rules, clinical entry criteria and approval. Revision, bilateral, trauma-related or other complex procedures may be managed differently.
