Dr. Jitesh Rajpaul

Dr Jitesh Rajpaul is a highly experienced Specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon with a special interest in hip and knee conditions, including primary and revision joint replacement surgery, complex trauma, and sports-related injuries. He is known for his thoughtful, thorough approach and his genuine commitment to helping patients regain mobility and quality of life.
Dr Rajpaul completed his MBChB at the University of KwaZulu-Natal and went on to specialise in orthopaedic surgery, obtaining his Fellowship of the College of Orthopaedic Surgeons of South Africa. He further advanced his training by completing a Master of Medicine (Orthopaedic Surgery). In addition to his clinical work, he has published several peer-reviewed journal articles, largely through collaborative research with registrars and trainees, and continues to play an active role in postgraduate teaching, ensuring his practice remains grounded in current, evidence-based orthopaedic care.
He first served as a Senior Specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital, a major tertiary referral centre, where he focused on primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty, complex trauma, and ICU-level orthopaedic care. This role provided him with extensive experience in managing difficult joint problems and high-risk cases, skills that now directly benefit patients in private practice.
Dr Rajpaul later went on to serve as Head of the Orthopaedic Surgery Department at a regional hospital in Durban, where he led a busy specialist unit managing high volumes of trauma and joint replacement surgery. In this leadership role, he coordinated multidisciplinary care, guided junior colleagues, and oversaw complex clinical decision-making — further strengthening his ability to manage challenging cases with confidence and clarity.
Dr Rajpaul is a key member of Umhlanga Orthopaedic Surgeons, consulting and operating at leading private hospitals in Umhlanga and Durban. He has a strong interest in modern orthopaedic technology, including computer-assisted and robotic joint replacement, and the use of digital healthcare solutions to improve surgical accuracy, recovery, and long-term outcomes.
He believes that excellent orthopaedic care begins with listening. Dr Rajpaul takes time to understand each patient’s concerns, explains diagnoses and treatment options clearly, and develops individualised treatment plans tailored to the patient’s lifestyle, activity level, and goals. His calm, approachable manner helps patients feel informed, supported, and confident throughout their treatment journey.
Outside of medicine, Dr Rajpaul is a father of two children and values the importance of family life and balance. His wife is a General Practitioner in Umhlanga, giving him a deep appreciation for holistic, collaborative healthcare. In his spare time, he enjoys cricket, soccer, and tennis, and understands first-hand how important movement and activity are to overall wellbeing.
